Scott Kaufman and the crew on Rebel battled through to the very end to win the 2018 North American Championship at Chicago Yacht Club. This makes two years in a row for Scott and his team as they also won in 2017 in San Diego. Repeats wins are hard to accomplish so congratulations!
The regatta was held from September 13-15 with twenty three teams competing. Jim Cunningham and his crew were leading at the end of day one with plenty of others close on points. Day two ended with Cunningham still leading thanks to the throw out coming into play after six races. 2018 Etchells World Champion, Steve Benjamin posted two race wins to close the gap on Cunningham and leave it all to the last day. Kaufman and crew Lucas Calabrese, Austen Anderson, and Erik Shampain came out on the last day ready to dominate and followed through with two race wins to rise to the top of the standings. Cunningham and Benjamin posted new throw out races to shuffle the standings.
