Message from the San Diego Fleet 13 fleet captain regarding the status of the WCSS and US Nationals:

Sailors and friends, while this was foreseeable, all hoped that this communication wouldn’t have to be sent.  It would have been a beautiful day of racing the Bill Bennett Cup today, but for the circumstances we find ourselves in.  Many of us have large issues to deal with, and of course all are trying to be part of the solution, not the problem, while we focus on being safe and helpful to our families and communities.
At the water’s edge, San Diego Yacth Club has closed now. In light of all that is going on in the world, nation, state and locally, it seems clear that we will need to accept the postponement/cancellation of MidWinters West April 3-5 as well as the Etchells US Nationals 2020 April 24-26 for the time being.  You may also consider this an official cancellation of the West Coast Spring Series.  As noted last week, anyone who has registered and paid fees can get a refund if they wish rather than wait for a rescheduling. The regatta fees other than for the NOOD are the responsibility of Fleet 13, and we will be making our best effort to cooperate in a timely way.
NOOD San Diego has been rescheduled for Sept. 5th & 6th. For those of you that registered your registration fee will be transferred to the new dates. If you cannot sail those dates please contact NOOD and they will refund your regatta fee.
Fleet 13’s intention is to try and reschedule some or all of these events as times might allow.  Orca Bowl on May 16-17th is not off the calendar yet; let’s keep optimism at the forefront, and we will see. Fleet 13 certainly hopes to be able to once again host some great sailing in the near future.
Best wishes,
Charlie Mann
Captain, SDYC Etchells Fleet 13
