The 2024 Etchells Nationals in Newport concluded with Jim Cunningham (USA 1504) and his seasoned crew—Steve Hunt, Erik Shampain, and Serena Vilage—securing the top spot on the podium aboard Lifted. In a fiercely competitive event, they edged out John Dan III (USA 1427) on Dangerous by just one point (with Malcolm Lamphere and Bill Hardesty). For the Corinthian class, Andrew Cumming, John Millen, Erin Sauder, and Chloe Congourdeau finished at the top.
Over the three days from August 23 to 25, the 13-boat fleet completed nine races, with Cunningham’s team showcasing remarkable consistency by finishing all races in the top five. This strong performance positions them well for the upcoming North American Championships in Marblehead this October 11th -13th where 30 boats are set to line up.
